Weaving

The rods used for basketry are cut every year. The length of the rods varies from 0.60m to 3m which are used for different parts of the basket. They are cut during the winter months but can not be used immediately as the shrink as they dry.
It is therefor important that they dried out completely by storing them in a dry airy place. They will loose about half their original weight during this process. Storing Rods are stored in winter...
Before using them to make a basket they must be soaked again in cold water to make them pliable.

The length of soaking time varies according to the variety and the thickness of the willow. About 10 days for Golden willow and 3 weeks for Belgium Red. If the weather is humid they will keep in workable condition for about 8 to 10 days. Rods in the water ...and after that put in the water
